Individual travelling: hike here and now
Individual travelling offers numerous advantages. Together with Raj we planned our trekking according to our own ideas and wishes and he made a lot of good suggestions. We were able to walk in our own pace in contrast to group trips where we have to adapt to the other members of the group. We enjoyed being flexible and staying a bit longer in specially nice and interesting areas.
Hiking in a sustainable way:
A Nepal worth living also for the next generations
Hikers need plenty of drinks. We made good experience with "Micropur", a product on basis of chlorine and silver made by Katadyn company. That is how we sterilized and kept the water of the village well or local rivers. This meant no packing and no rubbish. At the moment, huge amounts of broken glass left over by tourists are piling up in the mountain villages. The local people cannot cope with this problem and the children who go barefoot hurt themselves.
Raj organized accommodation and meals for us in local families, they can easily host small groups without much additional energy waste. So energy balance is not upset. Raj paid the villagers directly for their service. And this income contributes to the welfare of the locals.
